Sediment Sampling System

沈積物採樣系統

Methods for collecting seabed sediments vary depending on research needs and include box corers, gravity corers, and piston corers. These devices are attached to steel cables and driven into the seabed by gravity to obtain sediment samples for analysis.

Sediments collected by box corers are mainly used to study organic matter oxidation, metal reduction and remobilization, nutrient regeneration, sedimentation rates, and sediment dynamics.
Sediments obtained by gravity and piston corers are primarily used for studying long-term geochemical processes, climate change records preserved in sediments, fossil evolution over time, and mineral formation.
