Expendable Bathythermograph(XBT)

The Expendable Bathythermograph (XBT), unlike a CTD which requires the vessel to stop during deployment, can be launched while the ship is moving. This allows for quick collection of temperature and depth profiles at the operation site without wasting time. Using this data, the sound velocity profile at that location can be calculated.

The XBT probe is disposable, with a temperature accuracy of about ±0.1°C. Different probe types are available depending on the water depth of the operational area.
